Identity theft is a huge issue and whether you’re using an unsecure public wi-fi connection or an ultra secure 4G internet connection, you’re still at risk. To keep your identity from being yanked from your data, follow these safety procedures online
Never Give Out Your SSN: There is no reason a reputable site should as you for your social security number unsolicited. The only exceptions to this rule are sites like banks but they should only ask when you contact them to set up service.
Don’t Give too Much Infor: This is particularly a problem on social media where people don’t hesitate to give out their phone number and address online. The more information you put out there the more nefarious people are able to gather. Make a rule (i.e. NEVER give out your address online, etc.) and stick with it.
Check Your Credit Often: The easiest way to ensure your identity is still yours is to check for credit dings. You can check your credit at three different agencies and notice any discrepancies before they get out of hand. Get a report every four months.
