The internet has made communicating with family and friends and finding all sorts of information so quick and easy that we often take it for granted. Software has developed to the point that anyone can post a webpage that makes them look like anyone from large corporations and banks to police and government. It used to be that letterheads and stationery from official sources were traceable and verifiable. The internet has altered that so that the amount of fraud and data and identity theft is astronomical and increasing. E-mails requesting personal information such as social security numbers, bank password verification, personal information etc. are constantly being received and identities lost.

Using the internet today requires serious caution. Social media is a popular way for friends and people with similar interests to communicate and share their interests. But predators and criminals regularly work the web to look for victims. Children-s use of the internet must be monitored for safety, who they talk to, who talks to them, where they live: these are items which parents and guardians must keep on eye on and protect. Adults need to be careful about how much personal information is available about them on the web, what can be stolen and re-used by a criminal, social media is not just for friends the whole world has access to it. Post on the web with caution.
